Luca Mars and KohR Motorsports captured a victory in the VP Racing SportsCar Challenge event finale Sunday at Daytona International Speedway. Mars’s consecutive wins over the weekend mark a monumental moment for the maiden race weekend of the all-new Mustang GT4, as the KohR Motorsports talent led flag-to-flag from pole position. Both trips to the top-step bring his win tally up to three in the series – all in Mustang – which includes a 2023 victory at Sebring International Raceway.

“The car was really fast – led flag-to-flag from the front this time. Lost a spot in the beginning, but I was able to get it back easily. I just managed the gap, and the car was strong for all 45 minutes. I had no doubt that I could win with this car. I’m really glad to see this result after all the hard work that’s been put in. It’s especially exciting to be able to do this for a brand like Ford. They worked really hard to get these new cars out here for this year – in GT3 and GT4 – and it’s just super cool that I’m the first one to be able to finish with a win for the first two races of the year.”
HOW REASSURING IS THIS WEEKEND’S RESULT FOR THE SEASON?
“It’s great. We know that we have a fast car for next weekend and for the rest of the year. The VP races are going to be really fun, and they are going to be a good test for the car to make sure that we’re really dialed in for the Michelin Pilot races. The guys have been doing such a great job in preparing this car. We were a little behind the game at first, but we adapted quickly. We have a fast car, so it feels good. It’s a good start to the championship. We’re going to keep working to make it even faster.”
