Multimatic Motorsports/Miller Racing Road Atlanta Pre-Event Report

September 1st, 2014Courtesy of IMSA – The Multimatic Motorsports / Miller Racing team, based in Markham, Ontario, Canada, will be at Georgia’s historic Road Atlanta circuit this weekend for the final round of the 2014 International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge (CTSCC).

On the heels of a successful outing at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas, on September 19, in which Ian James and Billy Johnson finished third in the No. 158 Ford Mustang Boss 302R after starting on pole and teammates Scott Maxwell and Jade Buford finished fifth in the sister No. 15 Ford Mustang Boss 302R, the team is optimistic heading to Road Atlanta. The 2.54-mile, 12-turn circuit is draped over hilly terrain northeast of Atlanta and is a favorite of drivers the world over for its high-speed, challenging nature.

Maxwell and Buford are currently tied for fourth place in the driver championship standings and lie third in the team standings, while James and Johnson are 11th and 14th, respectively, in the driver standings and 10th in the team standings. While it looks like Maxwell and Buford won’t be able to move up in the standings in this final race, there are great opportunities for James and Johnson to advance.

Activities get underway on Wednesday with a one-hour practice session, with another 45-minute practice session and a 15-minute qualifying session on Thursday. The 2.5-hour race is scheduled to take the green flag at 1:15 p.m. ET on Friday.

“I’ve been saying this for a few races now and it’s starting to sound like a broken record, but it’s once again ‘podium or bust’ for Jade and I,” said Maxwell. “Our Boss 302 Mustangs should be well suited to Road Atlanta, and we’re going to finish the season off with the strongest possible showing.”

“It’s the last race of the year at Road Atlanta, and I’m excited,” said Buford. “The cars have been getting better every race, so I’m hopeful that we can finish out the season with a great result.”

“It’s been a long season and we’ve had more than our share of misfortune, but we’ve been on an upward trend lately and should be well positioned to get a good result at Road Atlanta,” said James. “It’s the last race of the year, the car is strong and the team is strong, so let’s go win this thing!”

“I can’t believe we are already at the last race of the year,” said Johnson. “While the season has been filled with some bad luck, we had a strong run at COTA and can hopefully keep that momentum and luck to finish out the season finale with another strong finish at Road Atlanta.”

The race from Road Atlanta will be televised on a tape-delayed basis at 12:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, October 12, on Fox Sports 1. Live streaming and live timing and scoring will be available at www.IMSA.com. IMSA offers mobile apps for both iPhone and Android platforms, available at Google Play and the App Store, respectively, which also provide live timing and scoring among other features.
